Noida designer's killer arrested from Khopoli
NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel city police have arrested a 26-year-old man, who was on the run after allegedly murdering a fashion designer in a Noida guesthouse in August, from Khopoli.
"Shaibaj Mehmood Deshmukh, has confessed to having killed fashion designer Lunba Mehmood Siddiqui (28) in Noida," said senior inspector Datta Patilf the Panvel city police station. "Deshmukh is a college dropout, while Siddiqui worked with an export house in Noida. In April 2013, he and Siddiqui became friends on a social networking site, and later he visited her in Noida on three occasions. He promised to marry her and lied to her that he worked for a reputed company.While, the did not have sexual relationship on two occasions, he succeeded in having sexual relationship with during his third visit to Noida."
Patil said that when the accused evaded questions about his job, Siddiqui started suspecting his antecedents. After her parents , whom Deshmukh used to speak with on the phone,made enquiries and found out that he was unemployed, she started avoiding him. Deshmukh feared that Siddiqui would lodge a complaint against him and on August 28, he took her to a guesthouse in Noida, where he smothered her to death with a pillow, waited till 11.45pm and then stole out of the guesthouse. Deshmukh had sustained scratches on the shoulder when the victim resisted.
Hatote added, "He stole her ATM card and withdrew Rs 13,000, which he used to purchase a railway ticket and food. He disposed of the card 2-3km before Ajmer. He came to Khopoli and stayed at a lodge for a day. Then he went to Bangalore and returned after he had exhausted all money." Deshmukh, who lives on behind Jaddamba hotel at Thane Naka road in Panvel with his parents, they a tip-off that was planning to go abroad and had deposited his passport with an agency in Andheri. They also seized his passport. The accused will be produced before a Panvel court on Tuesday.Police said Deshmukh's parents claimed that he had undergone 2 bypass surgeries in past 2 years after 6 blockages were detected in his artery.
