SC grants bail to SPS Rathore in Ruchika molestation case

NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: The Supreme Court granted bail to former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore in Ruchika Girhotra molestation case. The apex court took into account CBI's closure report against Rathore as well as the fact that he had already served six months of his punishment. The court has asked him not to leave Chandigarh without prior permission of the chief judicial magistrate.

Rathore was convicted by trial court and sentenced for six months. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had enhanced the prison term to one and half years. Rathore's plea against conviction is pending in the Supreme Court.

Reacting to the Supreme Court's decision, Ruchika's father SC Girhotra said that it was very unfortunate that Rathore was granted bail. He added that the family's lawyer would study the Supreme Court order and then decide future course of action.
